The Luchsingers: Pioneers in Children's TV

Chuck Luchsinger, left, with brother Jack, right.
Brothers Chuck and Jack Luchsinger created network television's first 'cartoon' series, Cartoon TeleTales, which made its debut in Philadelphia on May 29, 1948. The show moved to ABC headquarters in Central Park and was welcomed by all ABC affiliates moving into the fall of that year.

Jack told original stories for the viewers, featuring unique characters, while Chuck quickly illustrated a dozen or more cartoon drawings to accompany the tale. The program instantly became a hit, and in its first year generated over 75,000 pieces of mail from young fans, virtually all of it drawings of the Luchsinger's characters entered in the weekly contest to be considered for a prize.
